The 2022 Summer Fancy Food Show took place at the Javits Convention Center in New York City from June 12-14, 2022. In attendance was our team, eager to uncover new trends in the specialty food and beverage industry. As our team walked the halls filled with exhibitors, we were excited to connect face-to-face with brands and buyers. It was refreshing to see plenty of “RangeMe Verified™” signs displayed at the booths of suppliers prepared to showcase their retail-ready products to buyers.
Here are some of the top specialty food and beverage trends we saw at the show:
It’s a SKIN-VESTMENT
Increased interest of self-care and wellness consumable products with skin benefits is growing among consumers. At the show, we saw an impressive amount of collagen products on display. Collagen is a protein responsible for healthy joints, skin elasticity, and the promotion of overall wellness. One brand leading the collagen movement is QualiNova with their Liquid Collagen, a 10 gram shot of collagen that is easier to consume than powders and pills. QualiNova Liquid Collagen has higher absorption rate, great taste, and is an easy grab-n-go supplement option.

A snack that’s off the hook!
Move over canned tuna, specialty canned fish is here! Brands like Scout have found a new way to elevate canned fish. At the show they displayed their ‘Seacuterie’ of canned favorites such as Rainbow Trout, Organic PEI Mussels, Atlantic Lobster, Wild Albacore Tuna, and Smoked Wild Pink Salmon. Scout, a Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified brand, is keeping their brand fresh and clean by sourcing 100 percent of their seafood directly from regional fishing communities across Canada and the U.S.. Their ultimate goal is to reduce food waste and protect oceans and waterways.

Lost in the sauce
It’s fancy, it’s tasty, it’s pungent, it’s a mushroom? Truffle infused products are on the rise as consumers are constantly finding ways to elevate their at-home dining experience. At the show, Truff showed there is no limit to truffle-infused indulgence, from their selection of hot sauce and pasta sauce to oil and mayo. Their fan-favorites included their Signature Black Truffle Hot Sauce, White Truffle Hot Sauce, and Black Truffle Oil.

It’s boba time!
Boba tea, also known as bubble tea, provides a taste of East Asia with cold flavored teas and juices paired with chewy tapioca balls. Its uniqueness and visual aesthetic has caused boba to grow in popularity, especially among Gen Z consumers. Throughout the show we saw more and more variations of boba, from canned boba to DIY boba kits. Brands like DaoHer Beverages showcased their canned boba milk tea flavors in brown sugar, classic, and matcha. DaoHer also highlighted their boba oat milk canned drinks in royal assam and brown sugar flavors.

Devoted to diversity
We’ve talked about the importance of supplier diversity in our last quarterly report. Supplier diversity is at the forefront of buyers’ minds and the industry and we were excited to see the Specialty Food Association (SFA) celebrate Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) makers in specialty food by dedicating a pavilion for BIPOC suppliers to showcase their products. Hrbvor (pronounced her – biv- ore) is a Black- and woman-owned sparkling herbal tea company. Founder and Chief Tea Brewer, Zahira Marmar, was able to showcase her brand in SFA’s inclusion pavilion for buyers to taste all of Hrbvor’s herbal teas that contain antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-viral phytonutrients, scientifically proven to support a healthy mind and body.
